The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Mr Tony Nwoye on the confirmation of his ticket as the party’s flag-bearer for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.
The party also congratulated him for choosing Dozie Ikedife (Jnr.) as his running mate.
It described Nwoye’s choice as a “master stroke” which would give APC victory in the election.
One of the 10 aspirants Nwoye defeated in the governorship primary, Senator Andy Uba, had petitioned the appeal panel, alleging that the primary was marred by fraud and widespread irregularities.
The appeal panel allegedly recommended that Nwoye be dropped.
This raised tension over the primary, which was led by Borno State Governor Ibrahim Shettima and adjudged as free, fair and transparent.
The APC National Working Committee (NWC), after considering the report of the Appeal Panel last Monday, upheld Nwoye’s victory.
The state’s APC Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Kate Ofor, congratulated Nwoye for surmounting the “booby traps” put on his way by some elements allegedly working for Governor Willy Obiano, who is seen as Nwoye’s major contender.
The APC candidate shares the same Federal constituency and Catholic faith with Obiano.
Expressing Enugu APC’s support for the party’s candidate, Mrs Ofor said the confirmation of his ticket was a landmark for the party to defeat the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The APC chieftain said APC’s mission is to rescue Anambra State from Obiano.
She added: “It is high time Ndigbo joined the mainstream of Nigerian political stream and re-enact the ageless lessons of Nigeria’s first President, the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, the Great Zik, who thought us how best to engage in national politics.
“The Great Zik admonished us to always play in the premier league, not the minor league. We are tired of lamentation of marginalisation in a country where Ndigbo towers high in the human development index and prosperity index.”
